چکیده
The primary purpose of the paper is to report a study auto-ignitive and anti-knock properties, firstly neat n-butanol in air, secondly its blends with gasoline-type, Toluene Reference Fuel (TRF). This involved blending ratios 10, 20, 40, 85% by volume TRF. Pressures were range 2–6 MPa, temperatures ranged from 678 916 K. Mathematical modelling detailed chemical kinetics for these conditions, using CANTERA code, yielded values duration main heat release rate, revealed reactions influencing them. High knock intensities not anticipated, but checks made whether operational points lay within Detonation Peninsula. peninsula constructed plotting ξ, ratio acoustic velocity, against ɛ, transit time an wave through hot spot, (τe). At 2 MPa 702–855 K, addition TRF moved coordinates away towards deflagrative regime. blend 85%, mixtures pure found lie close compression curve methane, known have good properties. suggests that gasoline would improve resistance at this operating condition. However, 6 had opposite effect, reducing pushing it deeper into peninsula. Uncertainties limitations ξ/ɛ methodology are also discussed.

Autoignition of Binary Fuel Blends of n-Butanol and n-Heptane in a Rapid Compression Machine
Autoignition of binary blends of n-butanol and n-heptane was studied in a rapid compression machine at an equivalence ratio of 0.4 and a compressed pressure of 20 bar with the compressed temperature varying from 700 K to 907 K. Within the temperature range covered in this study, no cool flame or negative temperature coefficient behavior was observed for neat n-butanol. With the presence of n-he...
متن کاملAn experimental and numerical analysis of the HCCI auto-ignition process of Primary Reference Fuels, Toluene Reference Fuels and Diesel Fuel in an engine, varying the engine parameters
For a future HCCI engine to operate under conditions that adhere to environmental restrictions, reducing fuel consumption and maintaining or increasing at the same time the engine efficiency, the choice of the fuel is crucial. For this purpose, this paper presents an auto-ignition investigation concerning the primary reference fuels, toluene reference fuels and diesel fuel, in order to study th...
متن کاملCorrelation of Ignition Delay for Various Methane Based Fuel Blends
It is very well known that the efficiency of an SI engine is limited by knock occurrence. As a compromise between knocking combustion avoidance and an accepted level of efficiency, an engine is typically operated at very close to the knocking boundary. However, the position of an engine knocking boundary is shifted if the fuel composition changes. The description of this abnormal combustion is ...
متن کاملAuto-ignition of aromatic and aliphatic Diesel fuel components: High-pressure shock-tube experiments and kinetic modeling for toluene and n-heptane
The auto-ignition of toluene and n-heptane as model fuels for Diesel fuel components have been studied in a highpressure shock tube under engine-relevant conditions. Toluene/air and n-heptane/air mixtures as well as toluene/nheptane/air (10/90% and 40/60% by volume) have been investigated over a wide temperature range (700 – 1200 K), = 1.0 and 0.5 and 40 bar behind reflected shock waves. A kine...
متن کاملRevisit of Diesel Reference Fuel (n-Heptane) Mechanism Applied to Multidimensional Diesel Ignition and Combustion Simulations
ABSTRACT Two reduced n-heptane mechanisms, previously developed in 1998 (40 species and 165 reactions) and in 2000 (65 species and 273 reactions) respectively, were revisited and the mechanism improvement was pursued. In the newly revised version, the mechanism consists of 83 species and 445 reactions. The mechanism was validated against the auto-ignition delay times of n-heptane/air mixture me...
